There are 4 birthstones for December?

Each birthstone has its own unique meaning, and it is widely believed that certain gemstones contain powers that can improve the wearer's health, wealth, or wisdom.

Some religions of the 8th and 9th centuries associated certain stones with certain months. These stones were called "cornerstones" and a person should have 12 of them, one for each month.

Later, it was believed that wearing a gemstone associated with the month of birth would ward off evil spirits and bring good luck, and the birthstone was born.

Because gemmology was not developed enough in the early days, people could not accurately distinguish the varieties of gemstones and often classified them according to their color. For example, ruby, garnet and red spinel would all be used as birthstones for the same month.

With the development of science, more and more varieties of gemstones have been identified, so the list of birthstones keeps changing, along with the differences in beliefs and folklore of different countries and regions, resulting in a situation where there are many different types of birthstones for the same month.

It is now December. In addition to the usual 3 birthstone versions. Some organizations (IGI) have also included other gemstones as birthstones for December.

Turquoise

Since ancient times, turquoise, with its chic color, has been loved by people who believe it can bring health and good luck, as well as ward off evil spirits. It has been worn and used for more than 5,000 years and is one of the oldest gemstones.

In ancient Egypt, more than 3,000 years ago, turquoise was considered a symbol of power and status and was set in jewelry by pharaohs and other ancient Egyptian nobles to adorn themselves.
Turquoise

Beginning in the 13th century, turquoise from ancient Persia was imported to Europe via Turkey and was popular with royalty because it was believed to have spiritual powers to foretell disaster. When set in a ring as a gift, the meaning was "forget-me-not". However, due to the less developed information at that time, the Europeans thought that turquoise came from Turkey, so they called it "Turkish jade", but Turkey does not produce turquoise.

Turquoise with a long history and unique beauty, not only is the birthstone in December, or 11th wedding anniversary of the memorial stone, often appear in the royal family of countries on the precious jewelry.

Tanzanite

Tanzanite, famous in the entertainment industry, was once thought to be the movie "Titanic" in the "Heart of the Ocean" on the gemstone varieties. (In fact, the actual stone used in the movie was a piece of prop jewelry set with blue synthetic zirconia).

In the 1960s, a blue-violet crystal was first discovered in Tanzania with very distinct polychromatic properties, showing blue, fuchsia, green-yellow, green and other colors in different directions. At the time, no one was sure what this new crystal was, and for a while it was thought to be natural zircon.

After careful gemmological research, it was determined that the clear blue-violet stone belonged to the mineral zoisite and was found only in the Merelani Mountains of northern Tanzania.

Tiffany & Co. quickly recognized the potential of this beautiful gemstone, naming it Tanzanite after its country of origin, Tanzania, and promoting it in a major advertising campaign in 1968.

Tanzanite's beauty and rarity led to its inclusion in 2016 as one of the birthstones for the month of December, and not only that, but it was also chosen as the gemstone for the 24th anniversary of the birth of Christ.

Natural zircon

Zircon is one of the oldest natural minerals in the world. Found in Australia, zircon even has a history of 4.4 billion years, with a variety of colors, Mohs hardness of 6 to 7.5, polished surface to diamond luster to glass luster, transparency is transparent to translucent.

As early as the 6th century, radiant zircon was likened to a symbol of prosperity and success, and was used by the Greeks and Italians to make jewelry. According to documents from the 11th century, Europeans believed that zircon would protect the wearer from illness, injury and kind treatment, and it was worn as a talisman by travelers. In the Middle Ages, the stone was believed to promote good sleep, ward off evil spirits, and increase wealth, honor, and wisdom.

CZ

Zircon's bright light and brilliant fire were so similar in appearance to diamonds that it was often confused with diamonds and set in many luxurious pieces of jewelry until the establishment of modern gemmology, when colorless zircon was cut in France around 1500 and sold as the "French diamond".

It is said that zircon was almost called "starburst" in reference to the gem's sparkling, fiery nature, but the name was never adopted, and in 1952 the American Jewelry Association listed zircon as one of the birthstones for the month of December, replacing lapis lazuli, which had been the original name.

Blue Topaz

The above three gemstones are the most common versions of the December birthstone. In addition, some organizations have included other stones as December birthstones, such as the  IGI, which has included blue topaz as a modern version of the December birthstone.

Why "blue topaz"? Because the original color of natural topaz was varied, including clear, pale yellow, yellow, orange, pink, violet, brown and, rarely, red.

The ancient Greeks believed that topaz could give people strength. In the 14th to 17th centuries, Europeans believed it could break magic spells and ward off anger. For centuries, Indians have believed that wearing a topaz on the heart will prolong life and ensure beauty and wisdom.

The blue topaz you often see today is actually colorless topaz that has been heated and irradiated, and is one of the beautiful stones that have been born under modern technology.

 Blue Topaz

Some astrologers believe that because the color of blue topaz resembles the cool serenity of the seasonal sky, it allows the wearer to ward off negativity, attract positive energy, have the ability to think calmly and stimulate creativity, making it ideal for those born in December.

It should be noted, however, that irradiated blue topaz may appear to lighten in color after exposure to ultraviolet light. If you wear it, try not to expose it to strong light for too long.
